Create your very own Auto Publish News/Blog Site and Earn Passive Income in Just 4 Easy Steps
You don't have to wait until your posts are published before checking them for SEO. Real-time content analysis tools show you areas where you can optimize your articles as you write.
Content analysis works hand in hand with search engine optimization. The first is like checking a car to see if it is running smoothly, while the second is like an inspection.
Our experience optimizing WordPress posts for SEO has shown that carefully analyzing our content helps us write articles that resonate with our audience and achieve better search engine rankings. Ultimately, it helps us provide a more engaging online experience.
In this article, we will show you how to perform real-time content analysis in WordPress using WordPress SEO checkers.
Why is content analysis important for SEO?
When you perform a content analysis, you evaluate your existing WordPress content to understand its strengths, weaknesses, and overall performance.
This will help you identify areas for improvement in terms of clarity, relevance, user engagement, and achieving content goals.
This can be a lot of work, which is why at WPBeginner we use the best content optimization tools to analyze the word choice, readability, content structure, internal linking, and user interaction of our WordPress guides and articles.
As you write, content analysis tools work in real time, highlighting areas for improvement and displaying useful metrics.
You can use other tools to analyze the content of any website in the same way. This will help you understand why some web pages rank better than you, so you can use the same techniques to improve your own content and stay ahead of the competition.
With that in mind, let’s look at how you can improve your website’s SEO using some content analysis tools:
Using All-in-One SEO for Real-Time Content Analysis in WordPress
The best way to get real-time content analysis in WordPress is All in One SEO (AIOSEO). It offers powerful features to help you check if your website is optimized for SEO, including helpful feedback on the content you are currently writing.
Once you've finished setting up All in One SEO, it will automatically run an SEO audit and give your website an overall SEO health score. Below that score, you'll find a complete SEO checklist with practical suggestions on how to improve that score.
This first SEO audit is for your entire website. You can also use AIOSEO to get a detailed SEO analysis of your individual posts in the same way. Now let's see how to do that.
Focus keyphrase
You should start by editing one of your posts and setting a focus keyword, which is the phrase or keyword you think most users will type into search engines to find your content.
You can do this in the AIOSEO Settings section in the WordPress content editor. Simply enter the keyphrase in the field and then click the Add Focus Keyphrase button.
All in One SEO instantly analyzes your content for that specific keyphrase and shows you a score. This score updates as you write and edit the post.
AIOSEO also provides a list of actionable recommendations to improve the score, for example by using the focus keyword in the SEO title.
If you follow these recommendations, you will achieve a higher score. Your goal is to improve your score from the starting point, not to achieve a perfect score of 100. However, we recommend aiming for a score of 70 or higher.
For detailed instructions, see our guide on how to properly use a focus keyphrase in WordPress.
Page analysis
A little further down in the AIOSEO settings you will find the “Page Analytics” section.
Here you will find tabs for “Basic SEO”, “Titles” and “Readability” where you will find further suggestions to improve your SEO.
Each tab contains a list of best practices. Items marked with a green check mark show where you are already achieving good results. Items marked with a red cross show where you still have room for improvement.
The best way to optimize the page for SEO is to work on these red elements. As you improve them, the crosses will turn into check marks.
You may also find more guidance in our ultimate guide to WordPress SEO.
TruSEO score
Now if you look at the top of the content editor, you will see that All in One SEO gives your post two ratings.
The first is a score for your headline and is marked with an “H”.
You can learn how to improve headline score by following our guide on how to use the Headline Analyzer to improve SEO titles. You should aim for a score of at least 70.
The other is the post’s TruSEO score, which is based on the focus keyphrase score, page analysis results, and other factors.
When you click on the TruSEO score, you can see all the content analysis recommendations in one place.
For example, you'll see sections for General, Social, Schema, and more. When you click on the General section, it expands to show the focus keyword, additional keywords, basic SEO, title, and readability.
You can click on any of these headings to view the reviews and recommendations shown above.

Using WPBeginner Website SEO Analyzer for any website content
Our own tool Website SEO Analyzer allows you to perform similar SEO analysis on any website. Unlike other analysis tools, it is free for everyone and does not require registration.
All you need to do is enter a URL to analyze.
This can be the URL of an entire website or a single post from any website. The URL does not have to be from your own website. It can even be from one of your competitors.
Like AIOSEO, the Website SEO Analyzer tool instantly gives a post or website a score on a scale of 1 to 100. Scores of 70 or higher indicate good SEO.
Here is an example where you can see the score for one of WPBeginner's most popular tutorials:
Below you will find detailed reports on what was done well and what can be improved in four different categories:
- Basic SEOcovers basic SEO best practices such as using SEO titles and meta tags, optimizing for keywords, image SEO, and internal and external linking.
- Advanced SEO, These are advanced best practices that require expert knowledge in SEO.
- Performancethat measures the loading time of your page and offers suggestions for improvement.
- Securityincluding your Google Safe Browsing status and whether you use SSL.
You can follow the recommendations in this audit to improve your website ranking.
For example, this blog post audit recommends shortening the meta description. The arrow on the right explains why this is important.
Additionally, the Website SEO Analyzer tool allows you to perform a free SEO competitor analysis by running a URL from another website. This will give you insights into what your competitors are doing and you can use this knowledge to improve your own website's ranking.
For detailed instructions on how to perform an SEO audit and generate free SEO reports, visit the Website SEO Analyzer page.
Using AIOSEO Chrome extension to analyze the content of any website
Another way to perform an SEO analysis on a website is to use a free Google Chrome extension, All in One SEO Analyzer. This extension allows you to easily perform an SEO audit while viewing a website.
After installing the extension on your Chrome browser, simply visit the page where you want to perform SEO analysis and then click on the extension icon.
A detailed report of the page will be displayed with the familiar AIOSEO tabs for Overview, Headings, Links, Images, Schema, Social and Tools.
The Overview tab displays scores for the page's SEO title and meta description, evaluates the page's URL, identifies the keywords used, and more.
The other tabs display a lot of useful information about the page.
This tool allows you to identify SEO weaknesses in your own content or learn about the SEO strategies of your biggest competitors. These insights can be used to improve your website's ranking on search engine results pages.
