In a massive security breach, Ticketmaster was allegedly hacked, affecting 560 million customers. It is not yet clear when the alleged crime took place.

The hacker group ShinyHunters claims to have stolen personal information such as names, addresses, credit card numbers and phone numbers from customers – and the team is willing to sell the entire dataset for $500,000.

Although Ticketmaster has not publicly addressed the hack, according to HackRead.com, ShinyHunters says they have tried to contact Ticketmaster for a response.

The breach primarily affected customers in Australia, even though Ticketmaster is based in Los Angeles. Ticketmaster is estimated to have an average of 113.6 million monthly users worldwide.

“The Australian Government is aware of a cyber incident affecting Ticketmaster,” a spokesperson for Australia's Department of Home Affairs said in a statement to CBS News. “The National Office of Cyber ​​Security is working with Ticketmaster to understand the incident.”

A spokesman for the US embassy in Canberra, Australia, said, according to CBS, that the FBI is offering the Australian government its assistance in the investigation.

Last week, the U.S. Department of Justice in the Southern District of New York filed a federal lawsuit against Ticketmaster and its parent company Live Nation, accusing the company of illegally monopolizing ticket sales and the entertainment industry and preventing fair competition.

This was partly due to the ticket sales fiasco for Taylor Swift's 2022 “The Eras Tour” – public sales of certain shows were suddenly canceled, presale codes did not work, and technical issues and long wait times in virtual waiting rooms marred the experience.

In January 2023, Ticketmaster announced that the problem was related to black marketeers and bots.
