AI could soon become part of our everyday lives, but in a new interview with YouTuber Kallaway, Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg said we may have completely the wrong idea about this technology.
Zuckerberg talked about most large companies and their desire to develop a centralized AI, citing Google's Gemini or OpenAI's Chat GPT as examples. For Meta, however, the strategy is not to develop a centralized AI – the company wants to create multiple programs.
“Our general view is that this is not a one-size-fits-all thing. People want to interact with many different people and companies, and many different AIs need to be created to reflect people's different interests,” he explained.

Meta is focused on building the underlying technology (called Llama) for companies and developers to create their own AIs that meet the needs of their companies and communities, Zuck explained.
He also stressed that the idea of working toward a near-omniscient AI daunted him, and although he had heard from other technology leaders who liked this approach, he disagreed.
“I don't think you should hoard AI technology,” he said. “I find it pretty disgusting when people in the technology industry talk about building this one true AI. It's almost like they think they're creating God or something, and that's just not what we're doing. I don't think that's how it works.”

Meta is currently testing a beta version of its Creator AI, allowing developers like Kallaway to test the software and see what an optimized AI designed for their specific audience would look like.
Llama 3 was released in April 2024.
