Disney announced this weekend at D23, its annual fan expo in Anaheim, California, that the company is undertaking the largest expansion yet to the Magic Kingdom at Disney World in Orlando, Florida.
Josh D'Amaro, chairman of Disney Experiences, outlined the company's plans to add a new “Villain's Land” and begin major renovations at Frontierland to create a new Cars-themed attraction.

“From the beginning, our Disney villains have given us endless opportunities to tell new stories,” said D'Amaro.
D'Amaro noted that the new Villian district will include two new attractions as well as restaurants and shopping. More details to follow.

Disney is planning two new attractions for Cars Land, a fast-paced street race and a family-friendly ride for all ages. The company already has an area in Radiator Springs (the fictional town from the hit film) at Disney Land in Anaheim, California.
Animal Kingdom in Orlando will also be getting an all-new land called Tropical Americas, which will include themed attractions and experiences from Esperanza, Encanto and the thrilling adventures of Indiana Jones. It will replace the existing Dinoland USA.

“With Tropical Americas, we are bringing massive projects to life for generations of fans,” D'Amaro said of the new complex, which is scheduled to open in 2027. “This is the kind of signature storytelling that our Disney Imagineers have been creating for 70 years.”
Another land is being built at Disney World's Hollywood Studios, taking guests to the Laugh Factory with a new Monsters, Inc. attraction – and Disney's first suspended roller coaster.
The announcements come just days after Disney announced its third-quarter 2024 results and said performance at its parks division could stagnate “for a number of quarters,” citing inflation and higher prices within the parks as reasons.

“We expect park revenue to be flat in the fourth quarter,” Disney CFO Hugh Johnston said in a conference call with investors. “It's really just a couple of quarters. I wouldn't call it a drawn-out period, but just a couple of quarters of probably similar results.”
In June, Disney entered into an agreement with the Central Florida Tourism Oversight District, which voted in favor of Disney's proposal to expand Disney World in Orlando. The project is expected to cost more than $17 billion over the next two decades.
