To avoid being seen as “trash” in the eyes of Generation Z, older managers (Millennials, Generation X, and Baby Boomers) are constantly trying to stay ahead of workplace trends. But sometimes leaders can miss the mark—and that's exactly what seems to have happened at the Canva Create conference on May 23.

Participants could secure a place at the event for $175. The conference was also streamed live worldwide.

“Whether you are a professional, nonprofit, educator or creator, it is shaping up to be a world-class creative festival with a unique opportunity to learn from and network with like-minded innovators,” the company said.

But in a clip that has now gone viral, a musical performance with a rapper and six background dancers is criticized as “embarrassing.”

Although the entire performance feels like an off-Broadway parody of “Hamilton” due to the cadence and conversation in the lyrics, the reviews were not what the producers wanted to see.

Imagine spending your entire childhood waking up early, traveling, competing, developing eating disorders just to get into Juilliard and become a professional dancer, and then you end up as a background dancer on the tech rap battle number at the Canva Corporate Employee Summit https://t.co/klmJNoAsl4

Yes, this is the height of embarrassment…but screw it, I hope Canva just keeps putting out these musical numbers. Embrace embarrassment and make it their brand. Make us talk about how bad it's going to be so we can look forward to the next conference.

I just wanted to take a moment to apologize and take back everything nice I've ever said about Canva. pic.twitter.com/aJVa9ROHaQ

Canva isn't the first company to face criticism this month for making “embarrassing” comments at a company event. Earlier in May, a musician was also mocked for his performance at Google's I/O event.

Canva did not immediately respond to Entrepreneur's request for comment.
