Last week, Amazon CEO Andy Jassy told employees that they would have to return to work in person five days a week starting January 2nd. Now, a new survey of 2,585 Amazon employees by Blind found that 91% are “unsatisfied” with the new return-to-work mandate.
However, are they dissatisfied enough to take action? Almost three in four (73%) say yes – and are already thinking about looking for other jobs.

In the memo, Jassy noted that “strengthening our culture remains a top priority” and that he “[thinks] all the time about it.
“Teams tend to be more connected,” Jassy added.
However, Blind's survey found that the new RTO policy is having the opposite effect. The majority of Amazon corporate employees said they didn't want to return to the office five days a week, and about 80% already knew people who were looking for other jobs.
“My morale for this job is at an end, I will completely review this until the PIP,” wrote a verified Amazon expert on Blind.

According to the report, Amazon hiring managers also anonymously reported that candidates were dropping out of interviews in response to the new mandate.
“The flat rate RTO policy is crazy, especially for those of us who were hired remotely and far from an office. I have children and family members here who are not ready to move,” said a verified Amazon professional who identifies as a parent. “Even if I didn't do it, the risk that I would be fired in six months would be too great anyway. So why risk a change?”
Amazon has not yet commented on the Blind report. The survey was conducted September 17-19, 2024 and focused on U.S. verified employees.
