The Email on Acid team would like a “Happy anniversary“ Greetings to Women of Email! Today it is five years since the professional network was launched.
Women of Email's mission is to promote the success and leadership of women working in email marketing. The association strives to create positive change and inspire professional growth as women build their careers in digital marketing.
Over the last five years, it has helped many women discover new opportunities, mentors and friendships. And these ladies are just getting started!
We recently reached out to Jen Capsraw, a co-founder of Women of Email, for career advice for email marketers. Jen shared some specific words of inspiration for women and reflected on the last five years. To celebrate Women of Email's five-year anniversary, we have published their comments here.
Email on Acid asked Jen about the challenges women face and how the Women of Email network breaks down barriers and addresses these issues.
“Every person has a different experience. While some are derailed by the injustice of bias and discrimination, others are far luckier. Our individual levels of privilege and emotional intelligence can play a role in career challenges. For people with mental and emotional health problems – which are often undiagnosed – their symptoms can be exacerbated by work circumstances, making difficult situations even more difficult.

A woman's career can be a joyful journey. Or a series of devastating traumas.
Most of us will end up somewhere in the middle. Many, many studies show that most women face additional professional hurdles compared to men.
Before Women of Email was founded in 2016, it was unusual for industry conferences to have gender parity among speakers. Access to top industry events was limited to the privileged. There was little to no visibility of competitive compensation rates in the industry. And many women felt uncomfortable, silenced or even attacked in certain online communities.
We are proud to have made significant progress in all of these areas. What we hear most often from our members is that the greatest benefit of WoE is community: the sharing of knowledge and networking, the encouragement and support, and the building of real friendships.
And because our member benefits are free to anyone in the industry who identifies as female, non-binary or gender diverse, the IRS recently reclassified us as a public charity. This status will strengthen our fundraising capabilities so we can have an even greater impact on the industry and our members’ careers.”
