Mark Zuckerberg's vision for artificial intelligence is not a single chatbot like OpenAI's ChatGPT or Anthropic's Claude. Instead, he envisions as many chatbots as there are meta-users, each with a unique personality and likeness.
At the SIGGRAPH 2024 conference on Monday, Zuckerberg told Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang about Meta's new AI Studio, which was released to U.S. users the same day. The AI Studio lets anyone create an AI chatbot modeled after themselves or a fictional character – with no code required.
“We want to give everyone who uses our products the ability to create their own agents,” Zuckerberg explained.
The chatbots work across Instagram, Messenger, WhatsApp and the web. Meta has a manual that guides interested AI developers through the process of creating a chatbot.
Huang said he was “super excited” about Creator AI, calling it a “bull's eye idea.”
He explained that the opportunity to develop artificial intelligence is now available to the hundreds of millions of small businesses that use Meta's products.
“We ultimately want to be able to pull in all your content, set up a business agent very quickly and interact with your customers and do sales and customer support,” Zuckerberg said.

He positioned the AI studio as the first step toward customized AI chatbots that could help small businesses and developers interact more personally with their communities. The AI personalities would be trained with the material needed to properly represent the business.

At the time of this writing, Meta's AI studio had bots like GreenThumbGuru, which focused on gardening tips, and The Sassy Psychic Priscilla, which touted “real conversation, no frills.”
Zuckerberg said one of the most important use cases for meta-AI to date is emotional support. People use AI to think through difficult social situations, such as asking their boss for a promotion.
According to Zuckerberg, this is where the flexibility of creating different AI personalities proves useful compared to a uniform AI model.
“This is all part of our larger view that there shouldn't be just one big AI,” Zuckerberg said. “We just think the world will be better and more interesting if there's a diversity of these different things.”

Zoom CEO Eric Yuan had a similar assessment of the future of AI.
In an interview in June, Yuan told The Verge that his vision is for an AI version of himself to attend meetings, act as a personal assistant, and send him meeting summaries. Custom-built AI bots have the potential to shorten the five-day workweek to four or three days, he said.
