While many top executives continue to express concern about the unchecked development of artificial intelligence, the CEO of Japanese investment company SoftBank has made a big prediction for its future.
In a rare public appearance before shareholders at the bank's annual general meeting on Friday, CEO Masayoshi Son spoke about his desire to create a world powered by artificial superintelligence (ASI).

“SoftBank Group has done many things so far, all of which served as a prelude to my big dream of realizing artificial superintelligence,” Son told the Japanese company's shareholders, according to Reuters.
He also said that AGI or artificial general intelligence, that is, artificial intelligence that is more intelligent than the human brain, will be available within the next three to five years and that AGI technology could reach a level 10,000 times more intelligent than the human brain within the next decade, according to CNBC.
Son's futuristic comments did not include an actionable plan for how the company plans to enter the ASI space, but he did mention that SoftBank will work on producing robots with AI capabilities that could be used across all sectors and would require “tremendous capital” to complete.
Over the past year, dozens of billionaires and business leaders, including Elon Musk and Richard Branson, have signed letters calling for regulation of the technology, even though technological advances could bring positive benefits.

“I'm more excited than worried about AI,” Branson recently told Entrepreneur. “I think it's going to change how people deliver healthcare, it's going to change surgery, it's going to change many, many aspects of life.”
SoftBank posted a year-on-year increase of nearly 27% on Friday afternoon.
