The best miles and points websites

1. The points type

When we asked a community of over 3,000 financial bloggers who their favorite credit card and credit card rewards blog was, The Points Guy won hands down.

And they were right. After doing a little research ourselves, we concluded that the recommendations were justified.

Brian Kelly founded The Points Guy blog in 2010, and as of this writing, the blog receives over nine million monthly visits.

There's also a YouTube channel associated with the blog with over 10 million views and 57,000 subscribers. You can watch The Points Guy in person as he travels the world and see how he makes it happen with the right credit card rewards.

If you want to learn all about credit card rewards and how to use them while traveling, it's worth subscribing to this blog.

2. Million Mile Secrets

We've been fans of Million Mile Secrets for years. They work at the intersection of credit cards and travel and know the “secrets” to getting you and your family where you want to go using points and miles.

Beyond the travel hacking aspect of their website, they cover everything you want to know about points and miles. With everything from unique offers to great articles about family travel, Million Mile Secrets should be on your short list of credit card blogs to read.

3. Doctor of Credit

Doctor of Credit is the contact point for everything about bonuses when it comes to credit cards, banks and more. What I love about Doctor of Credit is that there are most likely insiders at most major credit card companies who will provide them with advance information.

We've heard directly from credit card executives about how Doctor of Credit gets inside information, but executives don't know how. That's solid credibility.

Even though their website looks like blogging from the early 2000s, the content is top notch.

4. FlyerTalk

FlyerTalk has been around since 1998 and was one of the first communities organized around frequent flyers (and their associated programs).

While not specifically a credit card website, it is a miles and points website with many connections to travel, credit cards, and more.

Beyond their editorial content, they also have a great community forum where activities take place every day. Their main categories include Miles and Points, Travel and Dining, Region-Specific Travel, and more.

5. BaldThoughts

The BaldThoughts About page states: “BaldThoughts.com is a travel blog that shows readers how to have amazing vacations with very little of their own money.”

According to Lee Huffman, founder of Bald Thoughts, his “baldness” and lots of thoughts about travel and personal finance led him to start his blog.

Lee and the BaldThoughts writing team bring a lot of humor to their posts, but aside from that, the blog offers a wealth of information when it comes to traveling less with credit card rewards.

In this blog you will also find a lot of information about hotel and restaurant loyalty programs. And if you follow her Instagram, you'll be inspired by her family travels!

6. Club Thrifty

The Club Thrifty blog is a great blog to subscribe to if you want to learn how to travel on a budget and how to do it as a family.

Greg and Holly Johnson are the founders of Club Thrifty. They travel frequently with their two daughters and have a lot to say about using credit card rewards for travel.

In fact, their use of points and miles in combination with their family travel is incredibly inspiring. They travel for several weeks each year – often with their young children. And most of the travel is done with points and miles from credit cards.

Upgrade Points is all about maximizing your points and trips. They focus heavily on credit card and points and miles industry news (e.g. which hotel brands and airlines are doing what). But they also offer lots of great guides and resources on how to maximize your points and miles redemption.

Of course, they also compare the best credit cards for different uses and help you make the most of bonus or welcome offers.

Boarding Area puts a much more emphasis on travel compared to others on this list, but the focus is still definitely on credit card rewards as well as points and miles.

By travel first we mean you'll find lots of stories and features about things to do, see and experience around the world. They also have a solid international section of their website.

You will continue to find plenty of travel industry news and credit card updates.

Other tools

In addition to the blogs, here are some other resources that can help you maximize your credit card rewards.

Wirecutter Money

Unlike The Points Guy blog, which started out as more of a personal blog, Wirecutter Money is a corporate blog that features credit card reviews.

Much of their content focuses on which cards offer the best interest rates, the benefits of business credit cards (think Costco or Walmart), and how you can improve your credit score to get better credit cards.

Nerdwallet

NerdWallet has been around since 2009. With a blog that receives around 16 million visits per month, NerdWallet has made a name for itself as the go-to place if you want to learn more about credit cards and personal finance in general.

NerdWallet offers a calculator on its website where you can enter your credit score and select a goal, and based on that, it will show you the best credit card for your application.

Do you have a low credit score? No problem, just enter these two pieces of information and NerdWallet will be happy to show you which credit card programs can help you improve your credit score.

NerdWallet also offers side-by-side comparisons of credit cards and other calculators to help you make the “right money moves.”
