Business leaders and CEOs are sending their best wishes to former President Donald Trump following the assassination attempt on him at a campaign rally in Butler, Pennsylvania on Saturday that left one bystander dead and two others injured.
Before Trump announced Ohio Senator JD Vance as his vice presidential running mate on Monday, public figures and tech industry leaders including Mark Cuban, Jeff Bezos and Elon Musk condemned the violence and in some cases even endorsed the presidential candidate.

This is how CEOs and business leaders reacted to the events of the weekend.
Mark Zuckerberg
Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg posted a message on Threads calling for a “speedy recovery” for Trump, saying Saturday was a “sad day” for America and noting that “political violence undermines democracy.”
Zuckerberg is not affiliated with any political party, but a 2019 Time magazine report found that the billionaire secretly recommended potential new hires to current U.S. Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg's 2020 presidential campaign team.
Jeff Bezos
Amazon founder Jeff Bezos praised Trump at X for his “tremendous grace and courage” and mourned the other victims of the violence and their families.
Our former president showed tremendous grace and courage tonight under literal fire. I am so grateful for his rescue and so sad for the victims and their families.
— Jeff Bezos (@JeffBezos), July 14, 2024
Bezos has previously donated to both Democratic and Republican candidates and organizations, including former President Barack Obama and former President Donald Trump. He has not yet endorsed a candidate for the 2024 election.
He is also the owner of The Washington Post.
Tim Cook
The Apple CEO strongly condemned the violence and expressed his hope for a “quick recovery for Trump.”
I pray for President Trump's speedy recovery. My thoughts are with him, the other victims, and the Trump family. I condemn this violence in the strongest possible terms.
— Tim Cook (@tim_cook), July 14, 2024
Cook and Trump met several times during his presidency, particularly during Washington's trade war with Beijing, where Apple manufactures most of its products.
“It's very important to me to engage with people, whether they agree with us or not,” Cook told GQ last April about his meetings with the former president. “In fact, I think it's even more important to engage when there are differences of opinion.”
Brian Chesky
On X, Airbnb's CEO shared that he was “horrified” by the assassination attempt and said he was “grateful” for Trump's safety.
I am appalled by the political violence that erupted today, and I am grateful that President Trump was not seriously injured. My thoughts are with him and his family.
— Brian Chesky (@bchesky), July 14, 2024
Chesky was critical of Trump's desire to build a wall between Mexico and the United States during a panel at the Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity in 2016. In 2022, he donated $100 million to the Obama Foundation.

“Anyone who tries to build barriers against the culture will be on the wrong side of history,” Chesky said at the time.
Mark Cuban
Cuban addressed X in a series of posts and thanked the US intelligence service for its intervention.
Let's just hope the former president is okay and no one else was hurt.
And let's hope they catch the idiot who did this. That's not the way
And thanks to the Secret Service, who put themselves in danger to protect the former president

Cuban also used the opportunity to warn his followers about potential scammers and con artists who might take advantage of the tragedy to steal money through fake fundraisers claiming to raise money for the victims.
I know some people are saying it's not the right time to share this, but I don't think anyone is denying that there are a lot of bots and fake accounts on social media.

Cuban has often been critical of Trump and has made it clear that he does not support him as a presidential candidate.
“I'm not a Trump supporter,” Cuban said in a March 2024 post on X. “That's for damn sure.”
Elon Musk
Elon Musk officially endorsed Trump for president following the shooting on Saturday, just a day after a Bloomberg report revealed that Musk had donated to Trump's 2024 campaign.
